I do remember the announcement of that program so my going assumption is that the previous owner decided to upgrade to platinum.
I think that's more likely than having a platinum piece redialed to look like a stainless model including the red tick which they might not approve. TBH, I've had similar thoughts - someday when mine needs to go in for service with a bezel that looks like it's been run over a few times and needs replacement anyway, I could see being tempted to ask about swapping for platinum though I bet the cost would send me running...
