These are just achingly romantic to me
The current vogue of handmade is eye-popping perfection, where the idea is to do handwork that involves fine details that are beyond the capacity of any (current) machine. But this is the kind of handmade I value most where, as quattro was saying above, there is an essential rawness to the finishing. The English style of that as seen here is wonderful, as is the French style as seen in JB Viot's work.

...it is what attracted me to Smith back in the day. That, and I saw an early Smith rectangular watch that might be my all-time favorite. But from photos, it seems that Smith watches have lost some of that 'simple' look.
