This is the point I struggle with too.
Unfortunately I don’t recall the exact details of the conversation I had with Hilda-san but I was asking him about the manufacturing and source of many parts and as you expect the bias is towards locally supplied.
The quality of the watch when held in the hand is obvious, the case and dial and hands I think you would be very happy with.
Maybe someone can chime in with a bit more detail, or hopefully I can learn more later this year.

I believe it's a variation of the Valjoux 7750 (sans the rotor and chronograph mechanism).
