It's inexcusable ... but not uncommon

Ken,

My watch repairing mentor established his business to take care of customers like you. People who bought a regular watch took care of it to the best of their ability and judgement, then had it scorned when brought it for repairs.

I recall Frank Muller, Roger DuBois, and others who told our customers: "If you don't have papers, don't send the watch. We won't fix it. Doesn't matter where you bought it or if you are the first owner or not. No papers, no service."

On one watch, I pleaded with Rolex, and sent it all the way to Switzerland, because my friend wanted an English date disc rather than his Spanish one on his gold Datejust. NO was their answer.
"We made it Spanish; it stays Spanish! Please pay for the return shipping so we can send it back to you."

I'm getting mad just thinking about it. Go have a sake and relax.

Mike
