It has existed without a date
There was a very limited edition in titanium without a date. I think it was inspired by an Italian fashion designer or something: there were initials on the dial but I do not remember which ones GL or GW something like that.
Probably 40 pieces or so (a real limited edition). Unfortunately, I cannot find any picture
There is also the Mellow Yellow in titanium which was similar, but which kept the date

Subtract the date, and this beats the Explorer hands down.
With the date... it's debatable.
But i read somewhere that it is less reliable than caliber 30110 which is ETA-based, in the mark XV.
My opinion is the Mark XV keeps the balance between classic size and reliability but i understand the appeal of JLC caliber
Have not bought one so far.
I like both versions a lot. Recently I tried the new titanium version, but did not buy it as the AD was very stiff on prices. I may get one from the used market eventually. Very drawn to the older designs especially the Mark XII’s dial.
