and watch hound, I wouldn't wear a "nice" watch on the trail. I used to ride with my Breitling Navitimer Premier all the time, but after 14 years, the law of averages caught up with the watch. I did a slow motion endo (over the bars) onto a sharp pile of rocks. I hurt myself a bit but continued the ride for another two hours. To my amazement the watch ran fine.
Once home, I put on my eyeglasses to check the watch closer and only then, noticed I sheared and shattered the crystal. All this after just having the major service! It's sitting in my safe now as I don't feel like spending the cash again on an old beater. Nowadays, I just use my daughter's Timex Indiglo Ironman lcd watch.
