Bang for the buck
Is important indeed when we compare watches (does not apply to choosing wives or husbands though!). :P
Hmmm, let me try to analyze:
The Montblanc Villeret Chronographs with calibre 13.21 has a few variants. The Rose Gold LE 58 is less expensive than the White Gold LE 8. The ones with enamel dials are more expensive than the first generation versions without enamel dials. Then there is the Montblanc Villeret Pulsograph and the new Meisterstuck Heritage Pulsograph. all having the 13.21 calibres. The new Meisterstuck Heritage Pulsograph has the best "bang for the buck" in that sense as it has the same beautiful 13.21 calibre...
but I have digressed... coming back to the 2 references I own/reviewed here:
The Montblanc Villeret grand feu black enamel LE 8 is actually slightly cheaper in retail price than the current Datograph Up/Down (considering someone who wants to buy a new watch and not into preowned Datos). That makes it great value as it has a black enamel dial (which is very rare) plus it is LE 8 pieces only (along with finely finished details like the hunter case back). Imho, I will say the MB Villeret I own has more bang for the buck than a new Dato up/down in this comparison.
If I were to compare it to the original Dato in platinum (assuming a BINB piece if available), the Montblanc Villeret I own is more expensive of course in retail price.
In this case, the Datograph will have more 'bang for the buck'. Comparing a preowned Dato won't be a fair comparison.
Man... MFT this is a tough call! I am not good at "bang for the buck" analysis! Passion and love has no "bang for the buck"!
"Buy what I love and can afford" is my preferred "analysis model" for watches
cheers
