For me it was design and readability
With my eyesight starting to fade, having a watch I could easily read was important. But also important to me is good design. The Panerai fulfilled both for me. By the way, I do not have a 44mm Panerai but a 40mm automatic. I bought the watch in 2000 before Panerai really became so well known. I have enjoyed wearing it every day and I continue to do so.
There is also that magic spell that others have mentioned. I would LOVE to have another one. A Radiomir may be in my future.
Thanks,
Scott

I've often asked myself that same question as I had the same initial response as BHK9. Panerai was just not under my radar then. I guess it grows on you. My friend/colleague is hardcore on Panerais and as we share our passion on horology, his PAMs kinda s...
