How was the sapphire scratch? I never had any incidents with chipped or scratched sapphires yet. A friend of mine had his sapphire chipped from a knock in the elevator door. I think the Moh scale doesn’t make it less prone to chip - at the right angle, sapphire or even diamonds can slip, and shatter. (I tried smashing some loose diamonds once with a hammer and they became like powder - courtesy of my friend whose mother owns a pawn shop)

I agree you should definitely give them a call and arrange for a more reliable (and possibly more modern) delivery method. I can see you're relatively close to Milano but not in the same region, so maybe now they can't get the watch to you because of this...
