I have written so many times, in a couple of forum, that I used to buy Panerai when you didn't have to look inside and stopped buying them for different..evolutionary choices...by the maison. To me, an ETA or a UNITAS or a in-house-movement, are not the main reason why I bought Panerai in the first place. So long as they tell the time accurately, for me the rest falls under the category: frankly, my dear 
As a consumer (not a Panerista) I'm as disturbed by the scenario as any other one, and condemn it though. I just hope, the reasons for choosing this course of action, were very important and serious FOR THEM.

I still love Panerai.
But there has to be a big change towards higher movement quality, transparency and in general towards honesty with customers until I buy a watch from this brand again. Best Thomas

Yet it seems Paneraihas no desire for such things. Let us hope we're wrong and Panerai apologizes and in the future is fully transparent. Love the style, yet it seems Richemont is allowing their Panerai brand to...... you know.

Why do these facts come out just now.? The author must have known this for a longer time. But nevertheless the facts speak a clear language. It's really sad!! Best Thomas

I have to politely disagree with this take.
When the facts, cleanly stated, are damning, then it is wrong to blame the messenger. Panerai is the only one who should be sorry here.
Certainly Panerai is not the only brand guilty of this sin, and the author knows it, yet he seems to revel in their sole crucification...

saw these posts over and over. seems awfully personal. i get not liking a company but a year or two ago they were threadcrapping any and every panerai thread.

Maybe that explains why another Richemont brand JLC sold me a Duoface that had to be returned three separate times for new replacement watches and then finally, forced me to retain an attorney to obtain a cash refund. Shameful!
The easy solution is Richemont is going to buy Swatch Group
As then ETA will technically be an 'in-house' movement. Perhaps Richemont has mistakenly provided non-public tradable information. Sell Richemont, buy Swatch stock?

It's pretty amazing to go to Panerai's website and see that the movement from my 973 that they used to call "OPXXXIV" and list on their website as non-in-house is now called "P.900" and listed on their website as in-house. This is straightforwardly decept...

Guess there was no official release that claimed it is a in-house movement. Not from PAM website or any new release. But did those that collected watch long enough would know that most company in the late 90s to late
till even now that many watch companies slightly modified mass produced ebauche, I.e. change or engrave logo on the rotor and etc. and claims in in-house movement. It the buyer choice to decide. No point harbouring about it when it an industry practise.
