Parmigiani

I was lucky to see and try them yesterday at W&W...

I had seen a few photos beforehand… but honestly, they don’t quite prepare you for the real thing.

The hand-worked dials display a truly unique texture. It is extremely subtle — almost “quiet” — yet the moment the watch comes to life on the wrist, the light reveals remarkable depth. Nothing is immediately spectacular, but within seconds, you understand you are looking at something of a very high level.

The proportions are, as so often with Parmigiani Fleurier, perfectly judged.

A special mention also for the gold movements: the level of finishing is impressive, with that almost confidential character that aligns seamlessly with the spirit of the brand. The signature of Michel Parmigiani is present, very discreetly.

The chronograph movement itself is simply breathtaking. The quality of finishing and construction speaks for itself, even to a non-specialist. I was also quite surprised by the weight of the Toric chronograph — it adds a real sense of substance on the wrist. I was, however, slightly less convinced by the “agave” dial of the chronograph.

The perpetual calendar is also very easy to read. I had seen it in pictures before, but never actually tried to read the indications. I did yesterday, and it proved both intuitive and significantly more subtle in its display than my Patek perpetual calendar.

That said, I would have personally preferred the perpetual calendar with the same blue dial as the petite seconde.

In any case, three beautiful pieces for the 30th anniversary. I am glad I had the opportunity to see, handle, and try them on.
