Patek Philippe

First Patek

Hi PAt,

Welcome to the world of Patek! You sound like a super nice guy and we welcome you to starting your Patek collection! I think the 5110 given your budget makes for a very sensible first Patek to collect. Also I like the 5146G which you may be able to find at around 30K.

I think you should also consider the 5711 and 5712/1a which are classic no fuss, quintessential Nautilus series Pateks. These watches fall on the edge of your budget and are generally very popular so should you wish to sell it one day, it should not be too difficult.

Kaaseng's message certainly sounds rather harsh and condescending. He certainly could have presented his message in a much kinder and more gentle, pleasant way but as bad as his presentation was, there is an element of truth and wisdom in his message in that if you have moderate or severe financial constraints, you should carefully consider your financial position before committing 20 to 30K of your hard earned money to a Patek or any watch for that matter.

I m not advocating that you should just buy and wear a Casio or Swatch. Indeed, i applaud you for having a finer appreciation for high end watches especially Patek, which i love. The reality is this. Watched are luxury goods and the global economy is not exactly in great shape right now. There's no telling what's going to happen in the next 6 to 12 months when cash I believe is going to be King. You may be better off putting your purchase "on hold" for now and be very patient over the next 6 to 12 months. If you spend time carefully searching thro auctions, dealers and market posts, you may be able to find a bargain or 2.

This may make your first Patek even sweeter and even more enjoyable when you eventually get it. Patience is the key.

I wish you the best of luck in your quest!
