5975- a review

I recently changed into the ref 5975R- a watch I have loved but not worn too much

Here his my impression after wearing it for about 3 weeks

1. The wear- or how it sits on the wrist

The watch is large on for my collection (40mm) not as large as the 5070 but still pretty big

My wrist is small but it sits well and I have not dinged it against any door chairs walls.
The deployant bracelet is useful but as a leather strap wearer, still feels weird. The clasp is quite big and catches on shirt cuffs very easily. Not a fan of the design either. Quite brash

2.   The function- telling the time, the dial and hands

The dial is pretty busy but it is surprisingly easy to tell the time

Gold hands on a white dial make for good legibility despite the very busy dial

The " chrono" function is a lot more complex. dubbed a multi scale chronograph , I am not sure of the usefulness of the complication.
Lets be serious. None of us use a regular chronology function for time telling so I am not sure what I am complaining about, but it is frustrating not being able to time anything longer than a minute. I know that is not what this is designed for.
It is designed to measure the speed of a vehicle, the hear rate or the distance of a canon ( or  how far lightening is from you).

I am still not sure if I prefer the leave the chronology running or set it at zero. Aesthetically I think the latter

( as an aside , it is difficult to know if it is wound if the chronology hands are not running)

  3.   Presence- or how many times it gets noticed

Absolutely none. I have spent 3 weeks e=wearing it. travelling, in crowds , in company and not one person has commented on me wearing a gold chronograph .

4. The automatic movement and the pushers

I know purists are avers to the idea of an automatic chronograph.

It should be annual wind. It should have a horizontal clutch not a vertical one

BUT   I think for this watch the automatic movement is a great idea. It is not a pure chronograph but some sort of intermediate .

I still think I would have preferred the 29-535 movement in the current manual wind series but I am also happy with the automatic movement

So in summary.

is this a great daily watch - yes . Absolutely

Is this a watch that is a crowd pleaser- not everyone will be clamouring for one

It reminds me of the "terminator" ref 5650

Some people love it ( you know who you are) and it leaves others cold ( me!)
