Hi all, Now that market prives have cooled down on most models, do you think it is a good time to make a move and get a 5231J? I def was not able to afford one until recently, and it is really an exit piece for me 😅 am just afraid that prices would contin... 

on keeping it, why worry about future prices? I have a few Rolex watches I’ll never sell that I bought many years ago. They seemed like a lot of money when I bought them, but they slowly gained value. So my advice is if you love the watch you want to buy ... 

Exit piece or not, my family comes first and if need be i would be selling the watch… am not in a position to be willingly losing tens of thousands… 😅 i just want to avoid making a mistake due to some information i would be missing from the brand or the m... 

Definitely don’t buy if this in any way comes before your family. That’s a no brainer. One should always put family waaay before a watch hobby/watch purchase.

But again you never know what the future is about. And that expensive hobby of ours can be managed in a healthy manner by taking minor precautions

My kids are adults with their own families at this point. Now I’m plotting college costs help, etc. for my grandkids 😁👍 It never ends until I’m in the ground.

I even forgot (since my kids younger)- cars, birthday parties, monumental parties (baptism, etc), weddings .......... 🤯🤪

If i recall well, when i bought mine, it was in the range of 60K€ ( so a little bit more USD). I doubt that this kind of piece will go lower than retail, pure gut feeling based on nothing apart the fact that they are limited in volume "hard" to access as ... 

While it was 120k+ a few months ago. I think original rrp was 68k€ and it raised quite a bit to 94k€ for the new 5231g

of a watch for future worries, I think you shouldn’t be buying that watch. I know it’s harsh and as watch loving people our hearts ache for certain pieces that we may or may not obtain, so I understand you, but for my two cents, hobbies should be done wit... 

I consider thos pieces disposable but it is alwaus good to know they are worth something meaningful at the end of the day… otherwise i would be buying cars that lose there value 😂😂😂

going to trade pieces or pay with cash etc. My understanding is that if you are not ready to loose maybe all the money that you paid for the watch, if the money / value that you are keeping in that watch is worrisome for you, you shouldn’t be buying that ... 

Am barely asking people who more knowledgeable about the brand and maybe this particular piece if there is any piece of information that i would have missed. In my book that 5231J is not subject to any specific hype (as compared to a Nautilus or a Chronom...

Prices for the 5131s are quite stable. You would be able to get some value from it if you need to sell, let's say +/- 25% of what you are paying now. However such pieces are illiquid, it might take months to sell. You'll forget about its price when you we...  

Since you said the below, I don’t think you should be buying a watch in that price range. You need to be able to lose the full amount without it being too much of a financial hit. Exit piece or not, my family comes first and if need be i would be selling ...

But i barely mentioned any price… And only when asked about… My question is related to the model itself because am currently considering a trade to get it… i never owned a Patek before. Seems healthy to me asking for help and advice.

I feel like this is the last forum standing that still stays true to the enthusiast community.

Watches get damaged, stolen, lost etc. If you're worried about a watch losing value, I would submit that it is indeed an investment.

And super nice quattuor! Decision is in progress… 🤞🏻WT really is a special item… Yellow gold might be the only weakness on that model, one has to feel comfortable wearing that color… but that’s also gives this model some hypnotic appeal, and that’s the ma... 

But that piece is just a marvel… and the yellow gold is a lot easier to wear than I expected even with casual outfit 🤩 ...
