Patek Philippe

Watchlover42 's recent acquisition of a 5940J made me realise that an overview of this Patek Philippe perpetual calendar model had not yet been done: so, here it is! The case dimensions are 37 x 44.6 x 8.48 mm and the watch is powered by caliber 240 Q . T...  

Thank you very much for the nice recap. Considering that the MSRP was over six figures when discontinued in 2020, I would say that it is a pretty reasonable reference to get on today's market. Really a beautiful watch.

...but pay attention to the type on this one...very interesting and well-done, for a change : )

5940 reference has a very vintaga vibe to begin with and while I really like the black dial version on G, the J works for me the best here....(I feel the same same about 5110J Worldtime)

...one example of a design the Patek didn't just phone in...

But the typo of the numerals isn't what I prefer: interesting and well done, but I personally could do with a simpler font, like in the 5020. Best, Emmanuel credit: Sjx ...  

...I think long out of reach for me these days... I guess my point is, the type is interesting, not just what is expected. It goes along with the entire character of the watch. I find it amusing that the typeface on the 5270, a high-end, expensive watch, ...

It's just that, on photos at least, yellow gold seems to me to fit just a little better the vintage vibe and aesthetic of the watch. As for white gold/black dial, even if it seems to be a great combo, it simply doesn't speak to me because I'm not into whi...

...and this is a traditional-looking watch. And, I believe the tone of yellow gold works better with my skin tone and with various clothing colors. If I am going for a white metal, it would be platinum or steel... White gold and rose gold are adulterated ...

Now I enjoy my new acquisition even more. Your great pics make me 100% certain, that I took the right decision! All versions do have their own charme but yellow gold is the right metal for me!

Don’t they always do that with such pieces that they make every other precious metal variant, or not necessarily?

it isn't the only model which was never made in platinum (for example ref. 5396 or 5950). As for the reason why a platinum variant wasn't produced, I really don't know. I would imagine that if major collectors had requested one, it would have been done. B...

I have same watch that I bought from a gentleman few years back. He misplaced the solid gold case back. There seems to be no use of that as it will hide a beautiful movement yet I feel, at times, if there is any way to get a case back from Patek at cost t...
