The 5020 is a grail watch...
...I think long out of reach for me these days... I guess my point is, the type is interesting, not just what is expected. It goes along with the entire character of the watch. I find it amusing that the typeface on the 5270, a high-end, expensive watch, is a version of American Typewriter. Most designers would never use it unless they were trying to create a nostalgic or retro look, but it somehow works : )

Thank you very much for the nice recap. Considering that the MSRP was over six figures when discontinued in 2020, I would say that it is a pretty reasonable reference to get on today's market. Really a beautiful watch.

Same here.
5940 reference has a very vintaga vibe to begin with and while I really like the black dial version on G, the J works for me the best here....(I feel the same same about 5110J Worldtime)

Rose gold is certainly a very nice option, no doubt about that, Gatsby.
It's just that, on photos at least, yellow gold seems to me to fit just a little better the vintage vibe and aesthetic of the watch. As for white gold/black dial, even if it seems to be a great combo, it simply doesn't speak to me because I'm not into whi...

J is just classic, 'real' gold...
...and this is a traditional-looking watch. And, I believe the tone of yellow gold works better with my skin tone and with various clothing colors. If I am going for a white metal, it would be platinum or steel... White gold and rose gold are adulterated ...

I had the white gold version
but got bored of it as it was not legible at first glance and legibility is important to me. Lovely case shape and amazingly slim for a perpetual calendar.
The white gold/silver dial is very monochromatic indeed.
But I guess that's precisely what makes it very appealing to those who like it! Best, Emmanuel
As always, the white gold versions are more understated
than the colored gold ones. Among them, I would pick the silver dial variant because of its very monochromatic look. But my personal favorite is J, here, like Watchlover42! Cheers, Emmanuel
Is it odd that they never produced a platinum version?
Don’t they always do that with such pieces that they make every other precious metal variant, or not necessarily?
As far as I know, even if it's unusual,
it isn't the only model which was never made in platinum (for example ref. 5396 or 5950). As for the reason why a platinum variant wasn't produced, I really don't know. I would imagine that if major collectors had requested one, it would have been done. B...
HI Emanuelle, this reference deserves more appreciation IMO. It is
thin and the dial is well proportioned ! This shape to me fits best with the YG because it exudes a vintage look and feel. Thanks for a good post !
