First off, congratulations on your new chronograph!
Same as you, I had the chance to try all the competitors, my good friend has a 5070G and I wore it for a week, and as many times I glanced at it the first thing that came to mind is that it’s a “mistake”, one can clearly see that Patek tried to hide the small move to in a big case, since we mostly see the front of the watch that bothered me, the Datograph I owned for years, and also got sold because of the ergonomics, and poor legibility.
The moment I saw the 5170, I knew this is it!
Fits like a glove, it’s a total Patek, traceable DNA to the historical pieces, classic calatrava case, superior moment(winding safety, reset button protection), superb accuracy, and the Breguet numerals(5170G), a dream...
Designed from ground up, and a first in-house movement!
Did I mentioned perfect size? The reassuring weight, not to heavy, not to light...
I love mine the same as on day one, it gets most of my wrist time, and an important reference in Patek history!

It was specifically the pulsometric scale that attracted me to this version.

Thank you for your kind words. My knowledge is definitely limited! And the purpose of this so-called review is to hear from collectors - especially the old timers - how they view the ref. 5170. I am quite sure at some point I will move to look at the 5170...

I think you chose well my friend. The 5170 is an amazing reference and wears better than the larger 5070. I prefer the esthetics of the 5070 and also the CH27 (I am a fan of the Lemania 2310 base caliber)...
but that does not diminish the 5170 nor it's in-house caliber, both of which are excellent. I have also thought about adding a 5170G or P eventually if I stumble upon one in NOS condition 😉

...that happens to have a chronograph function. I don't need a pulsations dial, but I tried one one a couple of years ago--if it had leaf hands I'd probably own it. It is very classy and very easy to wear on my 7.25" wrist...
