I am not surprised that the ref. 5170 has its fan base. But I must admit, they all have their pluses and minuses, and that I must say is largely attributed to taste and preference. I really enjoy reading the feedback/comments from the community. It is always interesting to hear about the should haves and should nots.

It was specifically the pulsometric scale that attracted me to this version.

Thank you for your kind words. My knowledge is definitely limited! And the purpose of this so-called review is to hear from collectors - especially the old timers - how they view the ref. 5170. I am quite sure at some point I will move to look at the 5170...

I think you chose well my friend. The 5170 is an amazing reference and wears better than the larger 5070. I prefer the esthetics of the 5070 and also the CH27 (I am a fan of the Lemania 2310 base caliber)...
but that does not diminish the 5170 nor it's in-house caliber, both of which are excellent. I have also thought about adding a 5170G or P eventually if I stumble upon one in NOS condition 😉

...that happens to have a chronograph function. I don't need a pulsations dial, but I tried one one a couple of years ago--if it had leaf hands I'd probably own it. It is very classy and very easy to wear on my 7.25" wrist...
