Golden Ellipse...
...it's been a week or so since I bought my first Patek Philippe...a very beautiful Golden Ellipse ref. 3548, dated aprox. 1970, caliber 23-300PM,with chocolate dial...it runs extremely well for a 40 years movement, recently serviced(+10 sec per day). I read in one review that cal. 23-300 is considered one of the best manually wound movement from Patek's golden age era...I would like to find out more and your oppinions about it...I noticed that here are discussed more, the Patek's newer or more complicated movements, but I think that even the basic models deserve some attention ...

The Ellipse is not my cup of tea, even if the platinum one, with the blue dial, is nice. It just doesn't sing to me. But your post, yes! This is certainly the curious shape of the case which doesn't attract me, but as always a Live Experience is necessary...

I like the Ellipse very much. In my mind it is one of the best formal dress watches out there, perfect for black tie, unless you are James Bond, then you wear Omega or Rolex. - SJX

to find out if it is an automatic is to ask your mother if she had to wind them daily. LOL Or, you may gently swirl it around a few times and set it down. if it is an automatic, it will run on its own without manually winding. If it has a petite second ha...
