Have you considered
whether your life style is such that you will be able to set it once and wind it daily or, in the alternative, whether you have the time and patience to reset it each time you want to wear it?
For me, these were the considerations in deciding to forego any of the handwound perpetuals. I travel often and want to see my frequently worn watches still running on their winders and still properly set when I return from a week away and switch to another. The 5960P, being automatic, meets my needs better in this and other ways, particularly the 12-hour chrono.,legibility, fit, size, and flyback function.

how ever it is a very personal choice. If you decide to go for the 3970 I think you would actually find yourself saving money not adding it.
