I would agree with you that the 5016R sounds better than the 5078P. But I still have to say, I am impressed with the sound of the 5078P, the 5078P sounds great especially for a platinum watch.

How often do you see three of these together?
Refs. 3979J, 5078P and 5016R. The 3979 is a whopper of a small watch. Of the three I find the 5016 sounds the best in terms of clarity, volume and tone. - SJX...
Aesthetically, my favourite is the 5078 P, by far ...
And not only because it is in platinum. I love its understated look, its pure dial, the nice shape of the roman numbers. Acoustically, I wouldn't know which one I would prefer, as I didn't hear them. Great trio, by the way. Best, Nicolas

I too love the look of the 5078, it is the pinnacle of class and elegance. Philippe Stern has said on several occassions that he believes rose gold produces the best sounding repeaters. I have been wondering if a 5078R may be in the works..... Steve

5016 R is the best contender
The others I find too simple for that sort of money. The successor of the 3979 is much, much nicer from the design aspect and looks just worth the money. The 5078 is way too much money for a "simple minute repeater", therefore not a consideration. BUT: ma...
