Patek Philippe

I beg to differ ...

The two measures are not really linked:

a) you can always stop the rattrapante and push the chrono via flyback back for a new start

and

b) the ratrappante hand catches forward and backwards the time: by pushing twice the pusher at ten (catch up forward or backwards with  the first push and the second push is to stop it again --- hence a permament display --- hence a "second chrono" --- hence seperate ... smile!)

What you have to consider, and this is the only unknown as I did not test it: you take the best / worst time by pushing the ten pusher twice with the chrono still running ... you simply watch and notice the new time and "act" by pushing ten twice to save it ... and as the split has stoped you can press flyback again for a new start ... and so on ... and so on.

I still need to read your post in detail ...

Best
