I visited Henri Stern in NYC this past Friday for service and also ordered a custom strap for one of my other watches.
While there I decided to buy a pair of YG spring-bars for easier changing between my deployant based strap and my pin buckle strap for my 3941J. I was pleasantly surprised that those spring-bars were "only" US$65 each/$130 for the pair. Plus it came with all the Evian water my wife and I could drink while waiting!

yes, perhaps find straps that do not come with quick release, and just use the spring bars on the current strap

actual experience is very valuable!... would guess the potential issues would come after many years of use and depending on the use of the watch (for example, a white gold diver that would see some tougher use, perhaps)

Nothing to worry about
No, I donāt think you have anything to worry about. Whether the springbars are white gold, steel, or otherwise, if you arenāt proficient at changing them youāll scratch the inside of the lugs anyway. But who cares, itās on the inside ā no one else sees it...
