No real disagreement here.
Choices are very personal and there might not universal truth but that doesn't mean that we should not seek it
Your essay was a great example of history and knowledge playing role in the way we appreciate watches. My main point was that we should be also aware of the roles that marketing and market forces play.
I will give you a very simple example - the exclusivity of platinum. PP (as I think all top tier brands except for FP Journe) charges a huge premium for platinum over gold. This is often justified by saying that it is extremely difficult to work with platinum. This is a false statement as it is only marginally more expensive to make and finish a platinum case. I think that this is important knowledge for a collector. Do I think that people who buy platinum watches are idiots? - of course not! Half of my watches are platinum. But I am not offended when others question the rationality of my choices.
Very valuable insight

.....you take my DB5 v DB11 comparison too literally. I am merely making a bigger point that a car from a vintage era cannot be readily compared with a modern rendition of the same car. That is the bigger point. One cannot use words like "better" too read...

We can all disagree about watches.....thankfully. Taste and preferences are such fickle beasts. We all differ in how we view a watch and its importance and attraction. To me, what is important is very specific to me. That is why there really cannot be any...
