Patek Philippe

No real disagreement here.

Choices are very personal and there might not universal truth but that doesn't mean that we should not seek it smile Your essay was a great example of history and knowledge playing role in the way we appreciate watches. My main point was that we should be also aware of the roles that marketing and market forces play.

I will give you a very simple example - the exclusivity of platinum. PP (as I think all top tier brands except for FP Journe) charges a huge premium for platinum over gold. This is often justified by saying that it is extremely difficult to work with platinum. This is a false statement as it is only marginally more expensive to make and finish a platinum case. I think that this is important knowledge for a collector. Do I think that people who buy platinum watches are idiots? - of course not! Half of my watches are platinum. But I am not offended when others question the rationality of my choices.
