Okay, pictures first
First of all, let me be honest:
The reason why I bought 5905P is that I want to have four chronograph of Patek in platinum: one normal flyback, one split second, one automatic with annual calendar and one manual winding with perpetual calendar.
I like my new watch a lot. It sits well on the wrist and I like the fact that in the black dial version the annual calendar part is not "jumping to the eyes". So the watch is very nice but it's not one of those great Patek watches which are "musts" like 5070P and 5370P. But still a very very nice watch. I might also be a bit spoiled because this watch, even I like it a lot, does not give me huge kicks.
What I am actually thinking is how much more value 5960/1A is actually offering. Let's look at the maths based on UK prices:
The new 5905P is costing £ 17,900 more than 5960/1A. If investing £ 400 for the straps, one gets two really nice custom made ones. Then the price difference in € is about 24,000. The platinum case is worth around € 2/3,000 more than the steel case so in reality 5960/1A is around € 20k cheaper plus contains also the steel bracelet. Yes, I know it's harder to produce a platinum case...
Is 5905P € 20k nicer than 5960A with strap & bracelet. It's up to the buyer. My decision was to have both but if I were in a situation that I could acquire only one, I know that I would have picked 5960A.
We all are in different situations and we have different ambitions and different tastes. So my initial verdict is that 5905P is really a nice watch but another nice watch, 5960A offering the same movement with nearly 50 additional parts, offers fantastic value.
Best, Kari
