Patek Philippe ref. 5975 - An Overview
During my recent stay in Geneva, I was able to try on the Patek Philippe Triple Scale Flyback Chronograph ref. 5975 in its white gold version.
What makes this chronograph absolutely special is the absence of any sub-dial and the presence of three different scales:
- Telemeter, used to approximate the distance between the watch and something that can be heard or seen
- Pulsometer graduated to 15 pulsations, used to measure the heart rate
- Tachymeter, used to measure the speed of a car
This chronograph was one of the models created to celebrate the brand's 175th anniversary in 2014.
400 units were produced in each of the three golds (white, yellow, rose) and only 100 units in platinum.
The case measures 40 x 10.5 x 46.6 mm and features angular stepped lugs which are inserted into the mid-case, but also override the bezel.
The watch features a solid celebration case back.
Hidden behind the case back is caliber CH 28-520, an automatic movement with a column wheel and a vertical clutch allowing to keep the chrono hand running constantly.
The watch was delivered in a special anniversary box and with a commemorative medal representing Charles, Henri, Philippe and Thierry Stern.
The watch also features a commemorative folding buckle.

B/ PLATINUM REF. 5975P-001
With only 100 examples made, it is the rarest of the set.
The original black strap didn't feature red stitching: this strap was added by the owner.

I think yellow gold would be my personal favorite variant (but I've only seen the white gold so far).

It's the lugs I like the most, personally.

If everybody likes a J or an R can I have a P?
I'd want a white metal for this Patek "tool watch" and find the G a bit bland. I am always thinking of calipers for the wrist when I think of this ref. Doesn't seem get much love compared to say a 5170 or 5172 but I like it very much.
Please, help yourself and take P of course! ;-)
Is it the lugs which make you think of calibers for the wrist? I think the absence of traditional chrono sub-dials and the fairly "busy" dial explain why this ref. isn't as much loved as the 5170 or 5172 (just my guess). Best, Emmanuel
