It’s odd that they would notice that watch unless they were really targeting you, as it’s normally not as recognizable as say a Rolex President or even a Nautilus on bracelet. The rubber strap really tones it down in terms of flash.
It’s sad that you can’t even wear a nice watch in public these days without worrying over it. I wonder what they would have done if you had just told them calmly that it was a fake, although prob good that you just handed it over peacefully as you did. Hope you can somehow recover it.

Police report is about the only recourse, unless Patek maintains a database of stolen pieces

Sending the police report to Patek is the right move. I would also inform your AD and see if there might be another piece that could be allocated to you.

It's not stolen but rather robbed at gun point. How about notifying all major auction houses as well with the serial number? I'm not sure whether they will act on it, but at least when the watch is handed over to them for auctioning they know it is a ques...

I hope you’re ok. It’s probably an inside job - someone who works for you or a client likely saw it and informed “the crew”. I know that’s probably not making you feel better. I hope you had it insured for the after market amount.
