Patek Philippe

Thanks Mike for this thoughtful and personal reply.

Your criteria of love and passion are the true bottom line. I really appreciate my 5070G for its historic significance, its design, balance and symmetry, its visual appeal up close and far away. I find I wear it probably more often than my other Patek watches for these reasons -- plus it's easier to grab it from it's slot in the box as opposed to taking other watches off a winder, how lazy of me! But to be honest, when it sits on my wrist it just doesn't FEEL as great as my 5230R or 5146G, for example. Their dimensions and orientations are PERFECT. If I had that with the 5070G I would be in awe; it would be virtually tattooed to my wrist. When one has enough different watches it's ok that some don't hit the sweet spot size wise. I have a 45MM Panerai that looks like a colossus on my wrist, but sometimes that oversize is a nice break. But with the 5970, especially given its substantial cost, I'm hoping that it satisfies every criteria -- love and passion, fit, history, aesthetics, functions, fair value, and that hard to describe feeling of pride in ownership. When I'm in NYC later this winter I'll be able to try them on again (it's been a couple years since the last time) and then I can compare and be more certain. Meanwhile, thanks to you and the others here for sharing your very helpful perspectives.
