Great point, and that's exactly why I choose to write about the 5127. I feel the Calatrava line often get lost among grand complications, chronographs and steel sports watches, but they do in many ways represent the archetypal Patek.

Your post was very interesting to read. I owned the original 5107G and loved it due to the crown guards. Without the guards, the watch just wouldn't have the cool factor. Your dial didn't look bad enough to replace. Did you think it needed a new dial when... 

Great observation, and I should have been clearer. The picture of the old dial is perhaps around 8 years old. I could actually see the slight discoloration with the naked eye. Not sure why Patek recommended a full dial replacement instead of a refurbishme... 

The 5127G is my all time favourite Calatrava. If it were still in production, I would seriously consider adding one to my collection. The size, the case shape, the dial... close to perfection IMO. I also love the crown guards. Enjoy it! In my book, it is ... 

The 5127 is a wonderful Calatrava. Classic in styling, yet at 37mm, a bridge between classic and modern sizing. The curves of the case, and yes even the crown guards, are so sensual. It really is striking on the wrist, and oh so comfortable to wear. I rea...  

Good eye there! I think it's just that the white balance is slightly off on the 60-dots picture, so it appears that the coloring is fainter and more beige than black. The font is a little thinner though.

I believe there is one more variation of the 5127G. The early runs, like mine, had the case rhodium plated. If I recall correctly, the very latest runs of the 5127G were unplated, and hence had a case with a slightly more grayish appearance. To illustrate...

Beautiful review of the 5127G! I knew about the 57/60 dot dial, but I didn't know that the dots were holes in the dial. I always liked the dots on the dial! The signature by both Sterns is even more amazing!

I actually had the 5107G.. but found it too small and I gave it to my wife.. I preferred the thicker bezel of the 5107G as I felt the date window lined up perfectly with the min dots (as the dial is a little abit smaller).. but with hindsight perhaps a th...

on the original dial. It is nice to know that they say the discoloration is caused by humidly. I have a 3796 with some discoloration around some minute markers and PP service said just leave as it is. Interesting they changed your dial out.
