Thought a comparison to the 5020 might be interesting, so here is an image
While I think it is safe to say that the case shape of the 5940 is based on 5020 there are very substantial design differences in the two references. The case dimensions are similar but 5940 is noticeably thinner. The 5940 has no windows for date and month, the hands and minute track are totally different. Also the font is not the same. In my opinion the font on 5940 is aesthetically more appealing. Would be interesting to read how others feel about 5940 vs 5020 from a design standpoint.

The dial on this one is perfect and maintains the symmetry and proportion that the 3940 did so well. The varying sized numbers on the 5140 ruined it for me. If I buy another perpetual it will have to be this one. Looks fantastic in the white gold!

The 5940 looks like a better design - just look at the lovely minute markers compared to the fussy ones on the 5020. Also, the shape of the case is beautiful on the 5940 whereas it is more squarish on the 5020. The Breguet hands are a nice touch on the 50...
