However, except the general hands shape and maybe some numerals, I personally can't see a common origin.
But the Leman has more standard dimensions, which make it more acceptable maybe for someone who is not into the 5524.
We all have our experience and I can fully understand this anyway.
As for the material and caseback, I would say this is "inspired by" but is not meant to be a pilot watch in the "tool" sense.
Of course I perfectly understand how you feel it. This is certainly not a watch for you!

If the watch looked like the 3rd Picture...
