I had the pleasure to "play"with your chronos.I must say your post ,especially the comparisons part,was so clear and beautifully organized.

Of course I am new in the game and still struggle to "get" the appeal of the 5070.I totally understand its charm and history but it pales in comparison to the Dato and the Duo.I mean,horologically speaking it can not compare with a watch whose movement is so innovative (the duo) or groundbreaking(the Dato).
I can t separate a watch from its heart.A great watch must have a good blend of design ,appeal and technical qualities(according to it category of course).And because we are talking about the big boys here,the 5070 lacks in the caliber departmet.So again ,I understand its appeal to many and its"value",but I would never swap it for the Duo or the Lange (even if the Dato proportions are not ecellent).
As you said the only comparison is with your Malte,both Lemania movement.Even in this case The PP loses in terms of charm and elegance I think.
Sorry to put it down,especially on the PP forum ,but maybe with age I will grow wiser and start appreciating hidden sides of PP,still obscure to me(referring to chronos,I mean).
I would like to see such comparisons with the new in-house 5170 to be fair.
Nevertheless again great job Nico,you are truly our Captain.

I believe it was first used in pocket watches as to prevent the column wheel from "jumping" whan the chronograph pushers were activated. Today it is more aesthetical than useful.

The 5170 doesn't have a flyback... The 1815 does.
The true competitors of the PP 5070, are, mechanically speaking, the VC Chronos. They share the same base, they don't have flybacks. So, yes, the 1815 doesn't not have a Date, but its movement is almost identical to the Dato, and can't be considered a a t...

Nice comparison with the others, I prefer the Vacheron and the 5170 visually as like you say the "numbers aren't eaten by the subdials". Though I'm sure you and the other owners of the 5070 don't mind All of these examples are classics.

It is one thing to see a watch alone,
It is much different when you compare them at the same moment and place. I think that it is the best way to fully understand and appreciate a watch, as it gives us some landmarks. With all the limits, of course, as we can only compare which is comparable....

That the 2 counters don't eat the numbers. It is a big deal for some of us, while others ( and I'm among this last category ) can live with. The funny thing with the 5070 is that its imperfections are its ..strength, in a certain way. How many chronograph...
