My personal experience with radium dials has varied. I have owned radium dials with no emission at all....and i have also owned them with 150 mSv per hour readings. I have also seen watches test at close-to 400 mSv per hour readings. In my view, readings under 5 mSv per hour are essentially fine. I wouldn't wear it at night where it is next to my head for 8 hours, but essentially it is fine. Once readings start heading up to over 10 mSv per hour, i start to consider it much less safe. Readings over 100 mSv (which are not uncommon in many 1950s watches) are, in my view, very unsafe. I have not mentioned the release of Radon gas which accumulates in places where the watches are stored....but that is another issue altogether.

Bottom line is some people care about this...some people do not. But it is good to have the facts explored.
