Some thoughts on vintage Rolex ...

Thanks Daos,

I agree that Rolex have produced some of the ultimate tool watches. It has to be helped, as well, by their consistent advertising over decades emphasising the exploits of those wearing Rolex.

It's interesting that you have avoided vintage, because it was the precise reasons you state that actually led me in that direction. Better 'value' for limited dollars with built in history, tradition and interest. And in many ways we already know what the 'classics' are. Predicting what will happen with some of today's 'fashionable' items is more hit and miss. And given your Longines Diver, I know you are drawn to these classics.

So let's have another conversation about this in two years time and we will see where you 'collecting' has headed!

The Rolex gurus can tell you more about vintage Rolex, but it is the dial where all the action is. My watch has had a new bezel inserted at some stage, and the bracelet is not the original riveted type, but the case has not been significantly polished and the dial is virtually perfect, even under a loupe. I am certainly happy with my first Rolex. I suspect there will be more to follow, as I have seldom (if ever) been as satisfied with a watch. And that's saying a lot!

Andrew

Ps. the black shirt is exactly as you describe. It was for an evening Christmas function, so you can allow me a little more formality. And the Submariner fit right in. A most versatile watch!
