The John Mayer Daytona — Ref 116508 Green Dial

The yellow gold Daytona with the green dial. Most people call it the John Mayer Daytona.

John Mayer wore his 116508 quite a bit and talked about it in interviews and on social media. The combination of yellow gold and that green sunburst dial was pretty bold when Rolex introduced it at Baselworld 2016. Not the typical black or white dial Daytona most people think of. Mayer seemed to really champion it, and suddenly this relatively under the radar reference became the one everyone wanted.

What I find interesting is how one person's genuine enthusiasm can completely shift how collectors view a piece. The 116508 was already a beautiful watch. But Mayer's love for it seemed to unlock something. People started seeing it differently. That green dial against the warmth of yellow gold... the way it catches light... the vintage racing vibe with a modern twist.

I'd love to hear from anyone who owns one or has spent time with it. What drew you to the 116508? Do you think of it as the John Mayer watch, or does it stand on its own for you? And for those who were watching this reference before Mayer made it famous... did you notice a shift in how people talked about it?

It is a gorgeous watch in any and all cases.
