Grand Seiko at Control Room A

Last night I was lucky enough to attend a special event hosted by Grand Seiko at Control Room A of Battersea Power Station, London. Present at the event were David Edwards, GS UK MD and his team, along with some special guests who kindly flew in from Japan for the event. They included Junichi Kamata, GS Design Director who gave a presentation on the inspiration for GS dials before demonstrating his design and drawing flair by  For those of you who don't know Battersea Power station, it was a long neglected landmark on the London skyline (you may recognise it from a Pink Floyd album cover). In recent years the building and surrounding area has undergone an incredible transformation. It's now a major residential and retail area with some jaw dropping architecture. Well worth a visit if you're in town. Control Room A is a spectacular event space within the old power station itself and features a massive array of old switch gear and apparatus. (Apologies for the slightly terrible scene photos here but I am trying to live life a little more in 'the present' these days, rather than watching it through an iphone camera/screen.) Anyway... one of the highlights was watching Mr. Kamata complete this wonderful sketch in about ten minutes. Skills!

Huge thanks to Richelle and all the GS team for hosting and lovely to catch up with some familiar and all-too-seldom-seen friends.
