I find it strange you declare it as your favorite country and yet you haven't been there yet.
Italy holds a special place in my heart; after more than a dozen visits, I've found it to be a wonderfully diverse country—sometimes chaotic, sometimes serene, but always incredibly beautiful. I personally believe that truly experiencing a place is key to calling it a "favorite." While research and admiration offers great insights, there's no substitute for the firsthand feeling.
I'm really looking forward to visiting Milano next year! Last time I was in Milano, I came back with 20 kilograms of dry pasta! Customs was not amused - but after I explained that American dry pasta doesn't taste as good and doesn't come out "al dente," the agent smiled, waved me through, and told me there was no specific limit on pasta as long as it was for personal consumption.
