Vacheron Constantin

Generally not a fan of the over-styled Overseas line...

I have always felt the Overseas line...gen 1, 2 and 3, is over-styled, with a much too heavy reliance on the Maltese Cross motif (mostly with respect to the bezel).

Gen 1 looks antiquated and much too 70s to my eyes (but I generally don't like 70s styles anyhow).

Gen 2 is the best, and I confess some appreciation for at least one model in this generation, in particular, the big date Chrono (semi large date at 12:00 o'clock).

Gen 3...the bracelet looks great and seems extremely well made and comfortable, but the bezel is atrocious and I don't appreciate the case, which is further along the spectrum toward a tonneau style. And the date window and date fonts, especially at the asking price, seem like weak afterthoughts. I also find the overall pricing very aspirational.

I don't think any of the Overseas line watches will age well.

That said, I don't have my finger on the pulse of the look-at-me Instagram watch market (now captured by Patek and AP sports watches and Rolexes of all varieties, as well as RM, etc.), so I don't have any reliable prediction of whether the Overseas will become a similar hit (but my sense is that it won't).

Cheers,

John
