Ive been reading and watching reviews of the Gen3..

 

Both the 3 hander and the GMT model for the past couple of weeks.

I'm not sure what drove me to these reviews. I'm checking myself if I'm just generally ticked off about not even being able to "dream" of getting a sports Rolex given the current supply / AD situation or if these VCs are really worth a look.

I definitely like the bracelet and the way the Maltese cross design is used. I even got over the fact that the lugs are integrated. I like the strap quick change feature. I don't even mind the date.

What keeps me from liking it enough to consider it is if the case shape is something that I'll like over time.

Also, if you look at past dial designs, the changes have been a bit drastic such that I wonder if they have already settled on an identity (which I think is something that an old manufacture should have at this point for certain lines). Now granted if they have.. if this will actually become a Gen1 of this type of look. Or is it going to change again drastically at some point.

Lastly, I'm wondering if I am just liking it because it is a good substitute.. which is a dangerous way of thinking. I might still be in that camp where I'm just looking at it as a substitute.

I think at the very least they should've considered continuing the big date design at 12 from the Gen2 and also retained the textured dial.

The overseas is finally getting the recognition it deserves. As nice as the gen 3 is I still prefer my gen 2 74047. I like the textured dial more than the sunburst. I do like the fact that they dropped it 1mm and you can’t argue the sapphire caseback and ...

it's one of only two watches that ever got me a compliment by a non-watch-person. I think that the blue and black Versions have completely different characters. I didn't like the blue Version, but think the black one is fantastic. For others it's differen...

And I believe that, given the good quality compared to many watches in high demand, they are hugely under rated. Honestly, I would buy one instead of paying a premium on a Submariner, be it a Hulk, or a Sea Dweller. They put the owner in a distinctive are... 

Personally I've just never seen the Overseas design as appealing.

The chronograph in particular. Beautifully finished and very comfortable on the wrist. Given the in-house movement I think I'd choose it over the ROC.

One of the greats of my collection, and one of the most used ones. In fact, I am wearing it as Itype this.

Mo the comp has to be 15400 to be fair. I have passed on this VCO piece so a many times - the bracelet and mvmt is more than a win but the bezel is downright deal-breaker for me. Then...

...there is the deep inset cutout date window - why not give it a dimension to compensate for that deep set date wheel. I swear that datewheel looks crooked everytime I see it. Luv the dimensionality on your jumbo date window btw. ...  

The third generation had to grow on me as I didn’t like it the first time.

I find the Royal Oak 15202 slightly more appealing. However I‘m someone who stays away from hype and lot liked designs, thus I can focus more on actual watchmaking, which is where the Overseas excels at in comparison to it‘s contenders. To answer you ques... 

Generally not a fan of the over-styled Overseas line...

I have always felt the Overseas line...gen 1, 2 and 3, is over-styled, with a much too heavy reliance on the Maltese Cross motif (mostly with respect to the bezel). Gen 1 looks antiquated and much too 70s to my eyes (but I generally don't like 70s styles ...

I love their bracelets. Best design in the industry in my opinion. The royal oak although nice pulls hair and is sharp on the inside. At least for me.

I am a big big fan of the Overseas 3 I realize many many collectors prefer the AP but somehow that watch never convinced me. Some of you replied that the Overseas is “over designed”, well I beg to differ and would call the Nautilus over designed I’ve got ...

The Gen3 bracelet is extremely comfortable. It doesn’t “catch” the hairs on your arm. Plus it has two hidden extensions. On a warm day when your arm is bit thicker the two elements close to the buckle can extend a little bit. Very comfy Plus it comes with...

Nice watches of course, but no VC will ever be (historically, last 20 years?) the new hot anything. Love VC certain models, certain iterations, etc. But hot? Sadly just the opposite, esp resale. If these are your watches--or watch-- I mean nothing against...

let’s not forget that most of the “hot” watches (Royal Oak, Dayto, Aquanaut, etc...) were not selling so well at launch... Gen 2 is definitely hot for me! Love gen 3 but they should have kept it under 15K$ IMHO. ...
