I have done some research in this area.
I've purchased and experimented with a few of the available apps with disappointing results. I've even tried mounting a quality microphone in a suction cup to try and isolate the sound. The results are always inconsistent. I have not tried any of the home testing devices Lepsi etc. A big factor is ambient noise. I'm not an audio engineer but I think the signal processing in the apps is an issue, it can't compare to a dedicated device. Best, Martin

There is another cheap app, although it can not compete with a Witschi.
Watch Tuner Timegrapher. $13 for an app that requires a totally quiet environment and careful use of a microphone.
It is not a professional tool, and I did not intend to represent it as such.

Looked to be a promising device. Perhaps yours is just defective? I was going to order one when I first heard about it but it doesn't support my Android device (Samsung Galaxy S5).

I've had mine for about a week and find that the results are inconsistent too. Sometimes the device will not synchronize and I have to restart the app for it to work. I usually take 2 or 3 readings to verify consistency. Sometimes the readings are accurat...

Try an ACE TIMER
Model 1000, this is the base model, no it is not a Witschi but for around $120 its good value and very usefull. I like it because its small and can be easily moved if needed. Various models may also be available on eBay David
