You higlight the perception matter...
in a world where marketing is strongly working.
Any mechanical watch would donwsize in interest if it were to be switched to quartz.
That's why I think that quartz watches must work in their own field and create new products.
In the 70's/80's all the Amida Megatrend, your Nixon, the Heuer Noodia is showing are watches that are typically quartz.
Swatches too are typical of quartz.
Intersting topic to discuss about this "other side" of the Force.

The problem
with quartz watches is that you need to change the battery once in a while. As can be seen with my Suunto M3 for bicycle rides that is quite a challenge... I do have one other "proper" quartz watch stacked away currently. It will go to my daughter very so...

A vintage piece from the late 1970's I believe. Found it in a bag in a consignment shop with some other interesting pieces...once I seriously cleaned it all up, opened here up, dropped a new battery in, she came to life, and has kept superb time ever sinc...
