Zenith

Thank you Magnus for a wonderful piece of information.

In my opinion Zenith is on the right track.
However the question of innovations is quite controversial.
1) Purists may claim that the usage of silicon undermines core horological principles. The parts being made by machine present no "warmth" in comparison to a part made or decorated by hand. At the same time silicon technology is very advanced as industry has potential to create components with tolerance exceeding 10nm which is amazing and cannot be outperformed by traditional techniques. However those parts are cheap in production so watch brands may have a difficult time justifying the high prices. It is also difficult to be sure how durable silicon parts are and will they function properly in 20+ years. Moreover will the brands produce a deep stock of replacement parts to be able to service watches? Nowadays silicon parts cannot be repaired - only replaced.
2) On the other hand such novelties are like a breathe ad fresh air. Watch industry - particularly well known luxury brand like PP, VC, AP and many others - up to present moment have made very little to promote extensive R&D and create innovative products. For example it took some of those brands dozens of years to produce a in-house chronograph. Also most of them haven't managed to produce a well engineered perpetual calendar that is child-proof and has no pushers.
3) The fact that Zenith & co have the will and vision to produce such innovative movements gives us hope that watch industry will shift in a proper direction.

Best regards, Alex
