Hello Patek experts, I wanted to inquire as to whether any of you have ever seen an Ellipse with this type of dial texture? I recently saw this for sale online and became curious about the dial. I’ve never seen anything like it. Appreciate your thoughts and opinions.
but the texture is very different from the one of this ref. 4226. The ref. 4226 usually comes with a sunburst dial with the word “swiss” surrounded by two sigma symbols below the 6 o’clock marker (swiss/sigma is also featured on 3567 hammered dials). So the one with a textured dial listed on C24 seems either very unique or maybe not authentic. As it’s a private seller with no extract from the archives, it’s impossible to tell. The watch also comes without the original ellipse buckle, which is another point that calls for caution, imo. Best, Emmanuel
Circling back to let you know that John Reardon believes it to be original and has seen this before. I’ve also become the owner. How cool is it that the 5226 has a lineage to a vintage Ellipse dial?
John Reardon was incredible and got back to me that he's seen the dial before and believes it is original (with the caveat that I should get an archive to be sure). With that little nudge, I took the plunge and bought it. Now my wife and I have matching Ellipses and I love it. Thanks for all the thoughts and suggestions here.
