Celebrating exactly one year on the wrist with this beauty.

It’s been one of 2-3 watches I’ve worn the most in 2025. I probably would have worn it more if it was safer. It’s a perfect watch for any occasion and feels so good on the wrist. I love it aesthetically and the 240 movement is just so perfect. So grateful and fortunate to have it in my collection. 🙏🙏🙏
I’ve never seen this watch in person but to have both the iconic Nautilus case and this asymmetrical dial is wonderful. I’m sure the second year will be just as good as the first ! Best, Emmanuel
I was at the "Whale Bar" at StR MalXXXXX with my 5712 several years ago! I still remember a sunfish that would follow me around whenever I went snorkeling. He/she followed me around for nearly two weeks!
Oh! Oops! I've mentioned it here before. Some might say ad nauseam-ly often.

I've probably mentioned it here several times. I used to mention it more often before it became hard to get - because back then it wasn't a flex. But now, to mention it as the first watch I ever bought, is sometimes perceived as a flex. I usually mention I bought it before they became hard to get.
What I meant is that you had vision before everyone else. I think for many Rolex or omega or something similar is their first “real watch.” To choose a 5712 is wow. Great decision for a young patrick_y!
The 5712/1A-001 was also my first Patek - before its popularity explosion

I continually begged, smiled, complimented every sales person in the Patek AD starting in 2010... until finally they offered me one in 2018. I was a shameless smiler! Cheers!
There certainly was no wait in 2010/2011 in all worldwide markets.

Short waits started around 2013/2014 in some markets. But if you had expressed serious interest in 2010 and offered to put a deposit down to back up your words, I can tell you that there was ample supply.
I always thought I would buy a JLC Reverso as my first watch. Since I was a fan of the JLC Reverso since I was ten years old. I really liked the design of the Reverso. However, an acquaintance showed me the 240 caliber from Patek Philippe - and I became smitten. It had a micro rotor. And it had a shine on the edge of the plates whereas the JLC had a dull edge - this troubled me - and I couldn't get an answer on the internet that would address this difference. After more self-study I came upon PuristSPro which mentioned movement finishing - one of the few on the web. I would later learn the formal term "anglage" and movement finishing was something that made a difference to me. Thus, when I finally did eventually acquire my first watch after my undergraduate years in my early 20s, perhaps not so surprisingly, I ended up with a Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712/1A. No real wait back around 2010/2011. And I wore it daily (I didn't procure too many watches too quickly back then) as my primary watch for nearly a decade.
I always dreamed of a 5711 (which I still love) but when I became serious about details and discovered the 240 movement I started dreaming of a 5712 (and 5740 which is beyond reach for me at this point). And hence i wear a 5712. Plus the asymmetric design is just soooooo goooood.
Honestly, the 5740 movement, the 240Q movement, is a great movement. But it's past its prime. That movement is close to 50 years old. And in today's world where we fly back and forth, not being able to change adjust the time due to timezones on a perpetual calendar is an issue. Patek really needs to make a QP movement that is capable of withstanding modern usage! And the clients who buy these things are often frequent travelers.
I also expect modern perpetual calendars to have more instantaneous movements.

The Patek 240Q movement takes probably 4-5 hours to make the transition every day, starting a couple hours before midnight and finishing a couple hours after midnight. I would expect the transition to be faster for a modern movement.
