if a 5711 looks like new (ie no visible signs of wearing) and if it is no longer sealed/has not been bought very recently I would assume that it has been polished. Otherwise you would see some signs of age

… pay a premium based on your argument. Nobody can prove it. Ie no signs of wear after a certain time after delivery implies it is probably polished (ie no price premium acceptable).

My first reaction was not polished but not 100% confident. The brushing on the bezel and case appears less silky than on the bracelet. Hard to tell if real or the result of the lighting / looking from different angles. Obviously they can't polish the bracelet and case and bezel as one at the factory which may already result in what I described. If I look long and hard enough on my 5711 which has not been polished since new there may be a similar effect. Also not sure if the edges around the bezel are slightly less sharp than new but sharp they look. So overall in very nice condition I think. 

Thanks for your feedback there are scratches on the plc which I’m fine with and I have seen a couple of used 5711 in person and this piece overall looks honest to me. Saw a 2021 example but the bevel line on case is not as sharp as this.

The watch shown looks to be in great condition.  When was it produced ?  If manufactured close to when 5711/1A was discontinued and seldom worn, it is possible it is unpolished.  The photos do show some slight marks.

And for me, I believe its been given a very light buff. That's ok honestly...no loss of curves or material. That's a decent way of making an owner feel its a brand new watch. I like it that way....so light Polishing is absolutely fine for me. Enjoy the purchase...check the timegrapher findings, and wrist shots please when the time comes!

by someone with superior skills (often that means at the factory) wouldn't scare me away if it looks this good and other aspects of the purchase are good also. 

Sold my 5712/1A ten years ago and really miss the Nautilus, good to have it back! It's 2014 fullset with everything, timegrapher is +2-3 sec and passed waterproofness. Once again thanks everyone for your feedback!

How do you compare and contrast 5711 vs 5712 ? Please share your thoughts in a new post.

The vast percentage of those watches that are more than 3 years old, and if the watch looks that pristine, the way this watch looks, are polished. I dont see anything wrong with this. Nowadays polish can be done to get the watch in like new condition and i think this is the case for this watch.
You may take it to a professional watchmaker to check the quality of the polish. If it is good, i see no reason to worry.

The 5711 is definitely a great piece to have.

I actually ordered one long time ago, but ended up getting a 5712 instead. No regrets, but I still like the 5711 any time I see one, and I wonder which one I prefer. I think "both" is the answer 😅
