Ref. 5014J “Roman hours”
Over a year ago, when I made a thread about the Patek Philippe ref. 5014, this “Heures romaines” (Roman hours) dial wasn't my favorite.
But upon recently seeing this wristshot, I couldn't help but think: I love it.

It has a certain charm, but it would not make my “love list.”
The Roman numerals are too overpowering for the dimensions of the case in my opinion.
I wasn't fond a year ago, but for whatever reason,
now I feel attracted... I might just need to wait another year 🤔😅
I think this Patek Philippe Ref. 5014J "Roman hours" is interesting.
It is quite nice and offers a better size than a lot of the Cartier Tank Louis models but I would have liked it more without the small seconds counter at 6.

For me it is nicer. Because of the slightly more complex case.
And because of the oval minutes track and of the stretched numbers at each corner.
The Tank Louis is more regular and geometric, which can of course be a quality to some. But I personally find this one more attractive.

Hi Emmanuel, this ”rectangular” watch is a small gem ! The Roman numerals are very prominent, although not overpowering like
the ones from Roger Dupuis.
I also find that, within a rectanglar case, the oval outline intersects with the circular sub-seconds quite interestingly geometrically 😃
Given its shape and other features, this reference could be the next one for you IMO !

I too feel it has a certain retro coolness and elegance to it. The shape, with the roman numerals in art deco fashion, radially spreading. I much prefer this version than the one with Arabic numerals because it had rather stubby looking hands. I just find the Gondolo line full of surprises

The Roman hours — a sleeper!
Emmanuel, the 5014J Roman hours is a real sleeper. 28 x 35 mm in yellow gold with a manual wind — there is something deeply personal about a watch like that. I love how a single wristshot changed your mind. That is the magic of this hobby, sometimes a watch just needs to catch you at the right moment.
