


I have no doubt that the new PP5970P will be the PP of 2009. All PP collectors already anticipated this. The next issue is how long will this be in the market. If we gauge at all Platinum models released by Patek the numbers are generally lower thus the rarity sought by collectors. Also the fact that this will most probably be the last perpetual chrono using the Lemenia movement all the more reason collectors will want to go for it.

A sales person at one of the Patek Philippe boutiques (name and location held) told me that despite receiveing over a thousand requests (several hundred at boutiques alone), they were only able to deliver about 50 of the 5131J since launch. The number is unlikely to increase even with the introduction of the 5131G, so may be half and half? Back to the 5970P; it is a beautiful watch (I would have preferred the 5070P-like blue instead), but I guess it's not as difficult to make as the enamel dial (complications aside) as they have done it for years now in other metals.
