You made the right choice. 

You got the watch that eluded you for many years and if I got such a watch, I would feel triumphant in such an acquisition. 

The only way you could've benefitted by getting the 5712 instead of the 3712 is if you like the 5712 more than the 3712.  It seems that you are relatively indifferent about the two models, so I think you made the right choice about getting the model which has a significant story behind it. 

It's a beautiful watch and I am incredibly happy for you that you were able to catch this rare bird.

I recently acquired some special fountain pens that I wanted when I was much younger. They came out in a pair of two in that year, and I was lucky to find a matching pair with matching serial numbers (getting the matching serial numbers is difficult) that was an exceptional number that was also fairly low. I bought these pens from an auction company and I was very happy. I felt triumphant, I acquired something that I could not have when I was younger.

Unfortunately for me. This set was ruined. The auction company screwed up and accidentally sold one of the pens in that pair (they're sold individually, but I wanted them as a pair with matching serial numbers) to another individual. Not only was I very upset that I no longer had my matching set. I was also very upset that I no longer had what I had always wanted for many years.

Anyways, I think that the accomplishment of getting something you always wanted, but were not able to, is very appealing to me. And I look forward to the time when I acquire those special watches that constantly elude my grasp.

This watch has probably more sentimental value than any other watch I own and I don't even dream about dropping her.

It is funny how sometimes a watch comes on your way which has everything in its class. A little bit the same story as with women.

Actually didn't over say for the 3712/1A. The premium goes to the part of fulfiling a 6 years dream.

The way I think about it is they are same watch with same price. The extra money for the 3712/1A get you to live up to your dream.

I can think of worse way to live life

If I feel that an answer is wrong or incomplete, then it helps me to dig deeper. In the case of 3712 vs. 5712 I really needed to understand if there are any differences between these to watches. Yes, there are but the differences are really minor. For somebody who does not have any special reasons to go for 3712, the current reference feels just the same. A person who don't know that 5712 was produced some months earlier before the introduction of the same under a different reference number, the watches are 100% the same.

Does it take some time to read the date, instead of a date aperture?

but my old eyes can read the date somehow. If I am totally honest, I am admiring the beauty of the dial all the time and have very little time to study the details. If I have to check the time, I stop looking at the watch for a minute or two. And after that I must check the time again.
I have pretty many sporting watches but I have never before had something which could compete with my new Nautilus.

The problem is just that I have still two more Pateks on my Dream List. To make my drams come true next time are an alternative to a new family house...

They can have the house and enjoy it now, OR they will inherit your watches one day and enjoy years later..-

I was torn apart between 12 and 11.... and went for 11 (on order) .... for its simplicity   But 12 looks very, very nice, too.  Looks good on your wrist.  A huge congrat!
