After much hemming and hawing, I am lucky enough to celebrate a milestone birthday with a present to myself, Laurent Ferrier Classic Micro Rotor in stainless steel. (Newer ones are in precious metal only)
The natural escapement movement was manufactured in partnership with Fabrique du Temps but finished and designed in house at Laurent. All the parts are hand finished with the same standard regardless of positioning in the movement which is what really sold me on the watch.
I ended up with the Laurent because I was looking for a subtle timeless aesthetic with a high finish. I had been wavering between a Patek 5226/5212 and Lange, but I’ve been wanting a Laurent since the Classic Origin dropped. Since this will be my only LF, I decided to go all in for the micro rotor. (As a side note, it looks like all the other movements are Swiss lever)
I also had concerns about servicing since it’s a micro brand but sounds like it’s serviceable by any competent watch maker. (Finishing TBD I guess)
P.S. Sorry for the potato pics, they don’t do the movement justice.
