I tell them to go classic but they like the exhibition back (more current models).  I tell them it's not worth the higher premium for the exhibition back but it's hard to convince them.

Only happened once. Halloween night at Soho Grand Hotel in New York. A gent at the bar was dressed in the costume of a policeman.  Big bus driver style hat, mirrored glasses, full badges and everything except a side arm.  What caught my eye was his stainless steel Royal Oak jumbo time and date only.  I congratulated him on the AP and didn't know what year/era it was, all that mattered was that it looked great.  Wouldn't have mattered if it was from the early 1970s or the current year.  Great piece!!!  I asked him if he had to wait a long time for it and he said no because he grabbed it on 47th.  He said it was hard to get because it took him many years to actually afford it.  Buy once, cry once!  LOL

I thought the Offshore was too much, and the SS Royal Oak not enough, but when sales lady Teri held it up, I agreed this one was just right for me.
